The first exhibition section shows how Portugal’s political and economic environment in the mid-18th century was determinant to help implement this Company in 1756. Originally it was named Companhia Geral da Agricultura das Vinhas do Alto Douro, its purpose was to regulate wine production and trade in this specific territory.
The assets shown here consist of a set of items which characterise the agricultural tools and instruments used in the Douro region. These are the key items of many processes that helped shape the landscape by creating the beautiful terraces, making it possible to grow vineyards in the region.
